Slim Thug, a rapper who hasn’t been relevant, well ever, recently took it upon himself to criticize Ciara and Russell Wilson’s marriage. Why? Hey, someone put a mic in front of him and this is what he said. “Do a woman who used to talk to Future really want a Russell Wilson? I don’t believe it, I think it’s all for financial stability.” He had more to say about Russell. “He’s just a corny dude, ain’t nothing wrong with it. I ain’t gonna say corny ’cause that’s hatin’ but he’s just like a square…I don’t believe a girl coming from a street dude could adapt to that.”
This debate of street/thug vs corny, attacking men who are educated by calling them corny or attacking men who aren’t formally educated by calling them thugs, must be written down in some insecure man’s handbook somewhere because only insecure men are ever worried about whether another man is a thug or corny. It seems that insecure men are ALWAYS concerned about how another man happens to be dating a certain woman, who by the way, would not even look in their direction.
Let me indulge in the silly thug vs. corny argument for a moment, which is truly at the heart of Slim Thug’s comments. Apparently Slim Thug cannot understand why he doesn’t have a relationship like Ciara and Russell’s and instead of doing some self-reflection, he unleashes his verbal attacks and misses. The truth is women like confident men…period. Confidence comes in all varieties. Sometimes men who are considered thugs are very confident and women are attracted to them. The same holds true for the so called “corny” men. If they are confident then women are attracted to them too. Nerdy, short, big, small, confident men attract women.
Men who lack confidence often do not understand why women will like a guy who is not like them. I see this online, men stating that women don’t like “regular guys” or like only “rich guys” or “thugs.” The common characteristics that these men share above all else, are a lack of confidence and low self-esteem.
A man with no problem dating women never complains about the types of men women like. Men need to know that no matter what “type” of man they may view themselves as being, if they are confident, women will like them. Seriously.
So fellas, stop focusing on and worrying about other men. Just step your own game up and remember, confident men catch the attention of women!
