Good Morning World!!

“The ocean makes me feel really small and it makes me put my whole life into perspective… it humbles you and makes you feel almost like you’ve been baptized. I feel born again when I get out of the ocean.” – Beyoncé Knowles

My grandmother didn’t see the ocean for the first time until she visited us in Boston in the late ‘90s. And even then, it was from Revere Beach, Massachusetts, if you know anything about ocean views, you know that’s not exactly the most breathtaking sight. But to her, it was magical. I remember watching her take it all in, her face filled with wonder and joy. It both confused me and humbled me.

I had grown up seeing the ocean my whole life, from regular trips to Atlantic City to other coastal spots. It never occurred to me that my own grandmother had only ever seen the ocean in pictures and on TV, never in real life. That realization hit me hard. It made me appreciate something I had always taken for granted.

Now, I live in a place where I can see the ocean from my living room window every single day. And while I may not be exactly where I want to be in life, moments like this remind me of how far I’ve come from where my roots began. Sometimes, I wonder what my grandmother would think if she could see the ocean every single day. I know she’d find it incredible. And that thought alone keeps me going, reminding me that even when I can’t always see it for myself, my life is truly amazing.

Happy Wednesday!
