The other day, I got a comment on my YouTube video asking why I didn’t address the “points” of an anti-feminist. I never address anti-feminist “points’ for two reasons. One, I think anti-feminism is stupid and not worth addressing, especially coming from a woman. And two, as a feminist I support the idea that women can choose any life they want, even a life I disagree with.
I realized that most people who spew anti-feminist rhetoric don’t have a clue what feminism means. They also don’t know that feminism supports anti-feminist women, ie “pickmes”. Feminism is the advocacy of women’s rights based on the equality of the sexes. That’s it. Feminism is just advocating for women’s rights. And in those rights is the right of “choice.”
Choice is the power of feminism. Historically women have not been able to choose for themselves the life they wanted to live. In the past many women were forced to rely on men to survive so the idea that a woman can choose the life she wants to live for herself is in itself, feminism.
Several things anti-feminists get wrong. The reality is feminism supports many things that anti-feminists say it doesn’t. Feminism supports, women choosing to get married, women choosing to have children, and women choosing to be stay-at-home mothers. Yes, feminism supports all of those things even though anti-feminists scream to the hills that it doesn’t.
While anti-feminists love to mislead and tell people that feminism “forces” women “out of the home” that’s not true. The only group trying to force their beliefs onto women is the anti-feminists. Anti-feminists are on a campaign to take rights away from women, control our reproductive lives, and force us into marriages. Only anti-feminists believe women have a “place” in society and should be forced into it. Feminists believe in women choosing for themselves.
So while the anti-feminists are out there misleading folks on what feminism is remember, feminism is why you as a woman can speak freely on social media without a man’s permission. Feminism is why you can vote, why you can have a bank account, why you can own property, and why you can choose to live the life YOU want to live as a woman.
So if you are an anti-feminist, thank feminism for giving you that choice.
