Saying that my family dynamics are complicated would be an understatement. Like many families, we have our fair share of challenges, conflicts, and deeply rooted issues. But one thing is certain, everyone in my family knows exactly where I stand. I have no tolerance for foolishness, negativity, or toxicity, and I will not hesitate to distance myself from anyone, even family, if I feel they are bringing harm or chaos into my life. My peace is not up for negotiation.
That being said, I am also fiercely loyal and protective of those I care about. If you need me, I will show up. If you are in trouble, I will fight for you. That’s just who I am. I believe in holding people accountable, but I also believe in compassion. Family should never be a free pass for mistreatment, blood does not entitle someone to hurt or disrespect you. But at the same time, I believe that when someone, even someone who has caused harm, is in genuine need, and I have the ability to help, I should.
Life is complicated, people are flawed, and relationships are never black and white. While I refuse to allow toxicity to remain in my space, I also refuse to let bitterness define me. If someone reaches out in need, whether to make amends or simply because they are struggling, I believe in extending a hand where I can. Not because they deserve it, but because I choose to operate from a place of strength, not resentment. That’s the balance I try to maintain, self-respect and boundaries, but also grace and humanity.
