Good Morning World!!
“I don’t want to force myself into an institution that doesn’t seem to appreciate what I bring.” – Nikole Hannah Jones
If I’m being truly honest, this society was never designed with Black women’s success in mind. The systems in place, from education to employment to healthcare, have historically been structured in ways that marginalize and exploit us. So when you encounter a successful Black woman, understand that her success is not just an achievement, it’s a profound act of resistance. It means she had to push through layers of systemic bias, cultural erasure, and relentless expectations to arrive where she is.
This society has long treated Black women as tools, valued for our labor, our strength, our nurturing, and our creativity, but rarely respected, protected, or allowed to thrive on our own terms. Our contributions are often co-opted while our humanity is overlooked. Yet, more and more, Black women are refusing to live in servitude. We’re reclaiming our time, our space, our health, and our joy. I include myself in that movement.
Many of us are still fighting, not for special treatment, but for the small piece of opportunity that is freely handed to others who haven’t put in half the effort. We are fighting for equity, visibility, and the freedom to simply live and succeed without carrying the burdens of the world on our backs.
And despite the odds, we are not just surviving, we are thriving. Every step forward is a victory. Every seat at the table we claim is a revolution. The day is coming when we will no longer be fighting for crumbs because we will own the whole damn bakery. Until then, we keep pushing, keep rising, and keep shining.
Happy Thursday!
