Today, “No Kings” rallies and marches are taking place at over 2,500 locations across the country. And while I fully support the people showing up, I, like many Black women, will not be in attendance.
For generations, Black women have been on the frontlines of every fight for justice, democracy, and basic human rights in this country. We have organized, marched, voted, and sacrificed, often only to be met with violence, disrespect, and disregard once the dust settles.
This time, I’m choosing differently. It’s time for someone else to lead the charge. It’s time for others to feel the weight we’ve carried for so long. Today, I’ll be cheering from the sidelines, not out of apathy, but out of principle.
I hope those who see what this government has become, who understand how dangerous fascism truly is, will stand up and take action. The fight for justice has never been just ours to bear. It’s past time for everyone else to step up.
Happy No Kings Day!
