Technology has evolved radically over the past twenty years, especially in how we communicate with one another. But, has technology changed dating? Well, yes and no.

Technology has changed how people meet because we can now “meet” people online. We now have online dating sites and dating apps where people use technology with the purpose of finding someone to date.  Because of technology we also have social media and texting. Right now, it’s very likely that you interact more with people through a screen than you do face-to-face.

Technology also gives us the opportunity to get information about the people we may date. If the person has any type of public online profile, we can see pictures, find out about jobs, sometimes even previous relationships. In fact, technology has created “cyberstalking” something that did not exist before. We can get immediate access to information about a person just by clicking a few buttons. However, the problem with cyberstalking is that we can make incorrect assumptions about a person simply because of finding a small bit of information. It is very important, therefore, to take the time to meet in person.

Yes, technology has changed dating in some ways, mostly in how we communicate. However, at it’s core dating has not changed. Dating is still basically the same that it has always been. “Dating is simply the art of getting to know someone.” Date Like A Woman. When two people meet, whether offline or not, there is an attraction, and then there is time spent getting to know one another. That’s dating. In that sense dating has not changed because of technology. We still have to get to know one another and there’s truly only one way to do that, by spending time together. Technology really can’t change that.
