Let me start by stating that I have never met Leslie Jones and she has not given me any permission to analyze her dating life. So, I truly hope that if she sees this blog she doesn’t mind me, a complete stranger, talking about something so personal to her. That said, I have seen her posts about dating and I think that people may not quite understand the challenges that Leslie may face that most other women simply do not have when it comes to dating. While I don’t know whether she is dating someone I do see that dating for her could be more difficult than for other women. So, here goes!
She’s a celebrity, and not just any kind of celebrity, a comedian. Trying to date while being famous at the same time is already SUPER challenging, mostly because there is no such thing as privacy when you are famous. Every person you are seen with, in the public eye, there is a question as to whether or not there is a romantic connection. It’s like being under a microscope. When you add in that she is a comedian you also add in the factor that men are totally afraid of being laughed at and embarrassed by women. That’s right, men are scared of witty women because witty women can make you feel stupid with one quick line.
Now, male comedians do not have this same issue. Women like funny men. Male comedians just like other male celebrities will always have women waiting to chat them up at the end of a show. It’s rare that female comedians have men waiting on them to chat them up at the end of a show. You got it, female celebrities just don’t get the groupie action that male celebrities get. That means when comedians like Leslie are on the road, they aren’t getting men lined up after the show to show them a good time. They are mostly either hanging with their fellow comedians or headed back to their hotel rooms. Totally not fair.
Leslie is tall. Of course, she is not the only tall woman in the world but it is a factor when it comes to dating. While many men love tall women, a lot men are also intimidated by tall women. Simply put, a lot of men aren’t secure enough in themselves to date a tall woman or even approach a tall woman. That has nothing to do with Leslie but it’s a factor, and let’s be honest, only the most confident of men would not be intimidated. Additionally, if she is also good at sports, that may further add to the intimidation. Most men just hate to lose to women. It’s silly but true.
She’s beautiful. Leslie is a gorgeous woman. Yet, there are still people who do not appreciate her beauty. Many are used to a white beauty standard that we can pretend is not a factor but it is. Colorism is real. I am sure she has to put up with ignorance from a lot of men which probably can get very frustrating over time. Being in the public eye she has to deal with negative people constantly. That also means she has to deal with negative men who may even take a shot at her confidence by saying something mean-spirited. Yes, men do that to women a lot. It’s a manipulation tactic. I go into detail about this in my book, Date Like A Woman. Over time this can wear anyone down, even a famous comedian.
Leslie Jones is dealing with a lot more than most. She has the right to let out a little frustration every once in a while. Sometimes you have to just work through the frustration to get to the good stuff!
