Women are conditioned to put everyone else’s needs before our own, our children, partners, parents, families, everyone. We are taught to care for everyone else first, and somewhere along the way, many of us forget that we need care too. Then the moment a woman decides to put herself first, people act like she has committed some great offense. How dare she choose herself? How dare she rest? How dare she prioritize her own happiness? But here’s the truth: nobody benefits when the person holding everything together burns out. When the person carrying the most weight falls apart, everything around her is affected too. Taking care of yourself isn’t selfish. Loving yourself isn’t selfish. Putting yourself first sometimes is necessary. Women deserve to build lives that sustain them, not lives that slowly destroy them while everyone else benefits.
