I’ve been labeled “difficult” since I was a child, and looking back, I know a lot of it came from simply speaking honestly about what was happening around me. Women are often taught from a very young age that being honest, outspoken, and unwilling to stay quiet makes us “difficult.” But an honest woman can challenge systems that depend on women staying silent. That’s exactly why women need to keep speaking honestly about their experiences. When women tell the truth about what happens to us, we make it harder for those experiences to be ignored and we create the possibility of a safer, better world for everyone.
